Graduate School

Effective Summer 2024 for all graduate programs with the exception of counseling, marriage and family therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, nursing, pharmacy, and physical therapy. These programs are subject to the prior admission policy in the 23/24 Graduate Catalog found here and the standards which are specific to those programs.


Graduate School offers a holistic admission approach to afford applicants multiple pathways to satisfy general admission requirements to the institution. Please note that the admissions criteria listed below refers to requirements for entry to the Graduate School only; individual programs may require additional application materials or criteria. Please see ourdegree programs pagefor specific program requirements and program deadlines.

Applying for Admission

ALL APPLICANTS MUST:

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TRANSCRIPTS AND TEST SCORES

Officialtranscripts and test scores are those which are sent directly from the issuing institution or evaluation agencyin a sealed envelope or electronically. If a transcript indicates that classes are in progress, the transcript will be deemed incomplete. Once the classes have been completed, a final official transcript must be provided.

Undergraduate Transcripts:Officialtranscripts are required from colleges and universities attended from which the undergraduate degree was earned. Transcripts are required for any post-baccalaureate credit earned.

Graduate Transcripts: All prior graduate coursework that has been completed, even if unrelated to the major being pursued at , will be reviewed. Applicants must be eligible for readmission at that college or university and must have earned no grades lower than a C on any graduate coursework in the last 7 years.

TYPES OF ADMISSION

Regular Admission

Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree with a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scaleora 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of attempted coursework to beregularly admitted.

Applicants who have earned any graduate or terminal degree from a from a college or university accredited and recognized at the institutional level by the US Department of Education (USDOE) will qualify forregularadmission to a master’s program provided they meet all other eligibility requirements.

Conditional Admission

Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree with a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scaleora 2.50 on the last 60 hours of attempted coursework to beconditionally admitted.
or
Meet a minimum formula score of 622.6 (2.2 GPA x 283 GRE) or for MBA applicants only, 1000 (GPA x 200 + GMAT)
or
With a GPA of 2.2 or higher, some candidates with 5 years of employment in a relevant field of study may qualify for a waiver of test scores in some programs.


Ineligibility:Applicants who are ineligible to register in any previously attended institution as a graduate student are not admissible.

Provisional Admission

Provisional statusis given to applicants who are in the process of obtaining official transcripts or GRE/GMAT scores. The minimum requirement for taking graduate courses in provisional status is a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 (based on a 4.0 scale). No more than six credit hours of coursework may be completed under provisional status, and students admitted provisionally are not eligible for financial aid or graduate assistantships.

Non-Degree Status

Applicants who wish to enroll in selected course offerings but not pursue a formal degree program may be considered for admission asnon-degree students.The minimum requirement for taking graduate courses in non-degree status is a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 (based on a 4.0 scale). Some programs have additional requirements, and/or exceptions to requirement, for taking courses under non-degree status.

A maximum of six semester hours of graduate credit earned in provisional admission status, including credit earned at University of Louisiana at Monroe and approved transfer credit, may be counted toward master’s or doctoral degree. The six semester hours must be included on the student’s approved degree plan to be counted toward the hours required for completion of the degree.

For Admission purposes student types are defined as:

First Time Graduate: Applicants with no previous graduate credit
Graduate Transfer: Applicants with previous graduate credit from another institution
Graduate Readmit: Applicants with previous graduate credit from , but not another institution
Graduate Transfer Readmit: Applicants with previous graduate credit from both and another institution
Visting Graduate: Applicants with previous graduate credit that wish to attend , with the intention of returning to their current university

Deferring Admission and Term Changes

An applicant who does not complete their admission application with all required documents by the deadline to apply (deadlines arelinked here) will be required to submit a new application to the graduate school for a future term and pay all associated application fees. An applicant who hasbothcompleted their application with all required official documentsandreceived an admission decision of regular of conditional admission, but would like to defer their enrollment to a future term, may reapply one time with no additional charge by contactinggradadmissions@ulm.edu.Some programs may not allow admissions deferrals due to program capacity.

Applicants who enroll and maintain academic eligibility will remain eligible for registration until there is a lapse of enrollment for two consecutive terms or until graduation, whichever occurs first. A returning student who has missed two consecutive terms is required to reapply and submit an application fee before enrolling.



International Graduate Admissions

In addition to the requirements for admission to the Graduate School and the graduate program of choice, international students are required to provide additional supplemental items which should be uploaded to your admissions portal:

1. Official transcripts from any university attended. If attended outside the US, provide an evaluation of the credits by an approved evaluation service (WES,ECE, andSpanTran). Transcripts should be sent directly from the institution to the Graduate School at gradadmissions@ulm.edu.

2.Statement of Financial Backing– establishes funding source and amount provided by source

3. Proof of Funding – This is the Bank statement or Bank letter that will accompany your Financial Backing Statement

4. Official TOEFL, Duolingo English Proficiency exam, or IELTS scores

5. Submit immunization requirements to Medicat - checkherefor more information.

*Immunization records are required after an admission decision is made

7. Valid Passport

Campus Wide Identification Number (CWID)

Your Campus Wide Identification Number is a 8-digit number which assigns to every student. Your CWID is only valid at . Newly admitted graduate students receive their Campus Wide IDs in their admissions email.

Hint: If you do not know your CWID, you can find it by logging into Banner using your SSN & PIN.
Click the "Student" tab - Click "Student Records" - Click "View Holds"
Your CWID is the 8-digit number next to your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen.


Warhawks Email Address

Access your Warhawks email using Office 365 from within the my portal.

TheBanner System

Banner is a secure self-service system where you will register for classes, check financial aid, view your fee bill, access your student records, view holds, and check course availability. The Banner system is accessed from your my portal.

Moodle

Moodleis the online classroom forum where you will participate in classes, communicate with teachers and classmates, view and submit assignments, and monitor grades.

Submit Final Transcripts and Missing Documents

If you were admitted with aProvisionalAdmissionstatus, you will not be allowed to register for coursework beyond your first semester until your missing docuements are received and recorded by the Graduate School.

The Graduate School requires copies of your official transcript(s) from all post-secondary education institutions showing your coursework AND degree conferral. If you submitted official, "in progress" transcripts in which your degree was not yet conferred, we require an official, final transcript which shows degree conferral.

Financial Aid

All domestic graduate students who wish to apply for federal loans should file a free (FAFSA)Federal Application for Student Aid.If you receive financial aid, you can accept or decline your loans throughBanner. For more information, contact the Office of Financial Aid.

Advising

does not place advisement holds on graduate students. However, registration processes vary by department. If you have any questions concerning advisement, check with your Graduate Coordinator for more information.

New graduate students are typically assigned to their Graduate Coordinator for advisement their first semester. If you have not received an email from your program with an assigned advisor, there is a complete listing of graduate programs with links to the graduate program pageshere. These webpages contain the contact information for all Graduate Coordinators.

Student ID Cards

Graduate students who wish to access campus services need a Student ID Card. Any graduate student who needs an ID can obtain one throughWarhawk ID Services. Online students who wish to have a student ID, and do not live in Monroe, should contact Ida Wilson, Assistant Online Student Advocate, atwilson@ulm.edu.


Parking Permits

Graduate students who operate a vehicle on the campus must register their vehicle with the University Police and display a decal in the lower left corner of their rear window. Information about registering your vehicle is available on theUniversity Police website.


Pay Your Bill

Monitor and pay your fee bill online usingBanner. Watch the University'sImportant Dates Calendarfor scheduled purges for non-payment. Pay your bill, or set up a payment plan, by theRegular Registration Payment Deadlineto avoid having your classes dropped.

HINT: The purge includes Graduate Assistants who get a tuition waiver but have unpaid fees.
