Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)Ìýin Elementary Education
The MAT program is an online alternative certification and masters program, which
prepares mid-career changers, or recent graduates who have earned a bachelor’s degree
in a content area outside the field of education to fulfill their dream of becoming
a teacher.Ìý The program also collaborates and partners with K-12 districts throughout
the state to supply them with highly qualified, certified teachers in high-need areas.

Dual CertificationÌýis available with the Elementary Inclusive program:
- ÌýMild/Moderate Special Education in Grades 1-5.
Admission Criteria:
- Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher (or a GPA of 3.0 or higher on the last 60 hours
of undergraduate coursework) on a 4.0 scale will qualify forÌýregular admissionÌýstatus.
Undergraduate GPA of 2.5 - 2.74 (or a GPA of 2.75 - 2.9 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate
coursework) on a 4.0 scale will qualify forÌýconditional admissionÌýstatus.

- Pass required PRAXIS content exams. It is recommended that you verify your PRAXIS

Program Structure:
- 42-45 hours of graduate coursework for certification in Elementary Education (Grades
1-5) - or - Elementary Education/Special Ed. Inclusive (Grades 1-5)Ìý
- One-year paid internship (fall semester and spring semester consecutively) -ÌýSummer I Term: Online summer institute with face-to-face field experience component
and Summer II Term: 9-hour course blockÌý
- Program admission is open spring, summer, and fall terms
