The Reginald F. Lewis Scholars Program is designed to enhance the educational experiences of exemplary Black male students with an emphasis on academics, social advancement, and community service.

The program was created in tribute to Reginald F. Lewis, a renowned American entrepreneur and philanthropist, famous for being the first African-American to have built a billion-dollar company, TLC Beatrice International Holdings Inc, and whose
success allows today's young African-American male students to receive support in their endeavors.

Each cohort includes two students from each University of Louisiana System member institution - including the University of Louisiana Monroe - for a total of 18 members each year.
