MONROE, LA School of Visual and Performing Arts is proud to present the Wind Ensemble in concert on Tuesday, October 3, in Brown Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

The ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Nicholas Bratcher, will present their first concert of the season called "Fables and Folklore." The concert will feature musical depictions of famous works of literature and folklore. The concert will be narrated by Dr. Will Rogers.

"I'm excited for this opportunity to make music with all of these talented individuals. This will be our first concert together, and I know some magical things are going to happen,” said Dr. Nicholas Bratcher, newly appointed Director of the School of Visual and Performing Arts and Director of the Wind Ensemble. “We hope you will join us."

“Fables and Folklore”is a concert that is inspired by works of literature and folk tales perpetuated by legends that live and thrive vividly in our societies. The concert will also feature the Louisiana premiere of “Mjolnir: Concerto for Timpani and Wind Ensemble”with soloist Dr. Kathryn Irwin, assistant professor of music and director of percussion studies at .

Admission for students, faculty, and staff is free with ID. General admission is $5.

With a goal of developing and refining individual and ensemble musicianship skills, the Wind Ensemble is created from the finest wind and percussion students within the School of Visual and Performing Arts as well as throughout the campus. Membership is open to all majors, with a placement audition held at the beginning of the fall semester and as vacancies arise.

The School of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Louisiana Monroe aims to provide students with the highest level of arts education, research and educational opportunities to majors and minors. VAPA aims to offer curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities to students enrolled at , as well as provide cultural activities, special events and performances for university, local and area communities.
