MONROE, LA鈥 网曝门 School of Visual and Performing Arts Concert Choir and Chamber Singers unite to perform a Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

VAPA鈥檚 Concert Choir and Chamber Singers invite 网曝门 students, faculty, staff, and the community to the performance at Parkview Baptist Church. Admission is free.

The music ranges from the Baroque period, including Henry Purcell (1659-95), to a modern piece arranged for choir performances using a metal bottle, electric bass, percussion, and more.

鈥淪everal of our singers will be featured as soloists in this concert. Jenny Smith, a vocal performance major, will sing 鈥極nly in Sleep,鈥 accompanied by the concert choir of 56 singers,鈥 said Deborah Chandler, Ph.D., 网曝门 Director of Choral Activities. 鈥淒avonzell Moncrief, a choral music education major, will dazzle the audience singing the solo on a traditional spiritual, 鈥楲et Me Fly.鈥欌

On two other songs, Mark McCleery, a local cellist, accompanies the choir. One piece also features Justin Havard, a 网曝门 music instructor and accompanist. The text 鈥淩efuge鈥 is by poet Sara Teasdale, set to music by artist Elaine Hagenberg.

鈥淔eelings of joy, fear, rage, and comfort are expressed in this song,鈥 Chandler said.

The second piece with cello is a movement from 鈥淛ubilate Deo,鈥 composed by Dan Forrest.

The concert choir will join Bayou Masterworks Chorale and Chamber Orchestra on Nov. 8 to perform the entire work.
