University of Louisiana Monroe President Nick J. Bruno, Ph.D., announced the postponement of Spring 2020 Commencement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ceremony is tentatively rescheduled for Aug. 8, 2020.
Bruno sent the following email to students:Ìý
It is with a heavy heart I have to announce that we willÌýbeÌýpostponing the spring commencement ceremony that was scheduled for May 16,Ìý2020.
The postponement of the graduation ceremony will not hinder your ability to secure employment or take licensure exams.ÌýDegrees will still be conferred on May 16thÌýto spring 2020 graduating seniors that have successfully completed all coursework and degree requirements. Diplomas will be mailed toÌýallÌýgraduatesÌýwithin four to six weeks after degree conferral to the address students used when applying for graduation.
This was not an easy decision to make, but the health and safety ofÌýour campusÌýcommunity is our top priority, and the situation has evolvedÌýsuchÌýthatÌýproceeding withÌýthe commencement ceremony as planned would not be possible.
The spring commencement ceremony will be held tentatively August 8, 2020.ÌýÌýAÌýcombined ceremony with summerÌý2020ÌýgraduatesÌýwill be planned and organized by the university’s Commencement committee.ÌýThis decisionÌýwas madeÌýwith input from graduating seniors through a survey distributed byÌýyour Student Government Association president, Olivia Bailey,Ìýand the university’s Commencement committee.Ìý
I know this is disappointing for our seniors that were eagerly looking forward to walking across the stageÌýand celebrating the conclusion of your hard work and the completion of your academic goal.ÌýI am also disappointed that I will not be able to participate in my last commencement asÌýÍøÆØÃÅ’s President, butÌýI too will celebrate your achievement with you.Ìý Ìý
Thank youÌýfor your perseverance and understanding during this unprecedented time.
Sincerely,
Nick J. Bruno, Ph.D.
