This is the first of a five-part webinar series sponsored by the LDH Office of Community Partnerships and Health Equity and Office of Behavioral Health.

The June 17 introductory webinar includes:
A brief biological background on the virus.
Methods for effectively preventing transmission.
Phases of state reopening and general updates.
Myths/stigmas associated with mental and behavioral health.
Stressors and reactors triggered when coping with COVID-19
Impacts of COVID-19 on the elderly population as depression and suicide rates increased among the elderly during the pandemic
Gerontology Program Director Anita Sharma, Ph.D., LCSW, will present on issues relating to the elderly population.
“I am quite excited by the partnership between the Gerontology Program and the Louisiana Department of Health. Together, we can raise awareness about health and behavioral issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sharma said.
