网曝门 Gerontology program is observing National Disability Employment Awareness Month with the third Conference on Disability Advocacy from 1:30-4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 via Zoom.

Community leaders and major organizations that serve people with disabilities and older adults will participate in the panel discussion on exploring and developing employment opportunities for people with disabilities and older adults.

Gerontology program Director Anita Sharma, Ph.D., stated, 鈥淣ow more than ever there is a need to develop employment opportunities for older adults and people with disabilities because the world is witnessing an exponential increase in the older population.

"Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic took a significant toll on older adults and people with underlying health problems. Along with high mortality rates due to the virus, older adults and people with disabilities also experienced emotional and psychological trauma due to the high rates of isolation and loneliness.鈥

2020marks the 75th observance of NDEAM and the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The ADA is a landmark civil rights legislation that works to increase access and opportunity for people with disabilities across society, including in the workplace.听NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and raises awareness about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents.
