Black Bayou Brass, the resident faculty brass ensemble in the School of Visual and Performing Arts, performed at the 2017 International Women鈥檚 Brass Conference, June 7-10 on the campus of Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J.
Ensemble members are Dr. James Boldin, Associate Professor of Music, Dr. Jeremy Marks, Assistant Professor of Music, and Dr. Aaron Witek, Assistant Professor of Music.
The ensemble鈥檚 recital program, 鈥淣ew Music for Brass Trio by Women Composers,鈥 included works by American composer Gina Gillie (b. 1981) and Argentine composer Adriana Figueroa Ma帽as (b. 1966). They performed the 鈥淭rio for Brass鈥 by Gillie and 鈥淭riad鈥 by Ma帽as, as well as the international premiere of Gillie鈥檚 鈥淪cenes from the Bayou,鈥 a work commissioned by and dedicated to Black Bayou Brass.
The composition is a collection of short programmatic scenes that portray various times of day, animals, and scenery at Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana.
The mission of the IWBC is to educate, develop, support, and promote women brass musicians while inspiring continued excellence and opportunities in the broader musical world.
