Torregrossa began his career with the Monroe City Police Department on July 16, 1979 as a Police Officer.
“I am extremely excited for what lies ahead for the community as it relates to the police and the things we have planned,” said Torregrossa. “I’ve had the opportunity to meet many people around campus and it’s wonderful to see how happy everyone is around here. We are getting into the community policing strategy on campus and it’s going to work well.”
Torregrossa is a 1979 criminal justice alumnus with two children currently attending .
“We are eager to have someone with Tom’s experience and knowledge join the university family,” said Camile Currier, interim Vice President for Student Affairs. “Tom is committed to the students, faculty, and staff of and seeks to create an environment that is safe and secure for the entire campus.”
During his years of service, Torregrossa was assigned to and served in patrol, on the JUMP Team, as a P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor, a K-9 Officer, and Commander of the Special Response Team (SRT).
He also served as the Jail and Booking Supervisor in Administrative Bureau, as Assistant Bureau Commander, as Bureau Commander in the Criminal Intervention Bureau, as Assistant Bureau Commander of Patrol Bureau, and his final assignment was Patrol Bureau Commander.
According to the City of Monroe, Torregrossa’s personnel file contains 56 commendations for professionalism, outstanding police work, the “gift of speaking,” work ethic, dedication to the law enforcement profession, and community service through the “Adopt a Cop” program.
