Joey Trappey to speak to ÍøÆØÃÅ students at annual Convocation

Published August 24, 2015

Convocation at the University of Louisiana at Monroe symbolizes the official start to the academic year. The event gives freshmen a view of Fant-Ewing Coliseum as not only a place they will visit for numerous events, but also as a place where they will receive their diplomas in four years.

During the ceremony, students are introduced to administrative leaders, as well as the Sound of Today, Ace, ÍøÆØÃÅ Cheer, and Hawkline. Students are also treated ice cream from Eskamoe’s Frozen Custard.

One of the most important aspects of Convocation is a speech about what to expect from college life, given by a successful young alumnus.

This year, ÍøÆØÃÅ alumnus Joey Trappey (BBA ’05, M.Ed ’07)—owner of local eateries The Fieldhouse and Trapp’s—will serve as Convocation speaker.

Trappey earned two degrees during his tenure at ÍøÆØÃÅ, including a bachelor’s degree in business, and a master’s degree in education.

Trappey was a member of the ÍøÆØÃÅ football team from 2001-2005, serving as team captain from 2003-2005. He was also a member of the basketball team from 2005-2006.

The Convocation March begins at the Kitty DeGree Bell Tower at the ÍøÆØÃÅ Library at 4:40 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, and will conclude at Fant-Ewing Coliseum, where the official Convocation event begins at 5 p.m.
