Dr. Chris Blackburn, professor of history at the University of Louisiana at Monroe,
has published an article that appears in the current edition of the Polish journal,
鈥淪tudia Historyczna.鈥澛�
With the support of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Jagiellonian University,
the prestigious journal has served as a leading voice among Polish historians since
1958.
The article is titled 鈥淭he Rebirth of Poland: American Humanitarianism After the Great
War.鈥� 聽It recounts how the United States helped secure Poland鈥檚 post-war stability
and insure its interwar existence through extraordinary amounts of humanitarian aid
and assistance following the First World War.聽
鈥淭his is a great time be working and writing on the First World War era,鈥� said Blackburn.
鈥淚t seems like we are experiencing a centennial commemoration almost daily for events
from the war.聽 I would encourage anyone that鈥檚 interested to take advantage of the
next few years to learn more about the Great War.鈥澛�
Blackburn is currently working on a history of the recruitment and training of the
Polish-American soldiers stationed at Niagara-On-The-Lake in Ontario, Canada, during
the First World War.
Blackburn holds a B.A. in history from Auburn University at Montgomery, and an M.A.
and Ph.D. in history from Auburn University.
