, Monroe Symphony, and Strauss Theatre present “South Pacific”

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) is collaborating with the Strauss Theatre Center and the Monroe Symphony Orchestra to present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” in concert at ’s Brown Auditorium July 10-12.

The Monroe Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by associate professor Dr. Jason Rinehart and semi-staged by Dr. Corey Trahan. Trahan will serve as director of the production.

“This is the third collaboration between VAPA and the Strauss Theater, beginning with ‘The Sound of Music’ two years ago, and ‘Les Miserables’ last year,” said Dr. Derle Long, VAPA director. “Hosting ‘South Pacific’ is in keeping with a key component of VAPA’s mission of providing quality cultural events to northeast Louisiana.”

Several faculty members and talent from Strauss Theatre Center will join the cast, orchestra, and production team.

A pre-performance reception will take place at 6:15 p.m., in the Sculpture Garden on Friday, July 10. The show begins at 7 p.m. Following Friday night’s performance, a meet-the-cast gala will take place at Strauss Theatre Center in Monroe.The cost for this package is $50 and includes the pre-performance reception, reserved seating, and the gala.

Patrons can also choose to attend the pre-performance event and general seating at the performance for $35.

Ticket prices for July 11-12 are $25 for the general public. The first 70 students with a valid student ID will be admitted at no charge.The remaining student tickets are $10 each. The July 11 show begins at 7 p.m., and the July 12 matinee begins at 2 p.m.
