网曝门 English welcomes Ecuadorian poet Santiago Vizcaino

The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 English program will host a bilingual poetry reading featuring the Ecuadorian poet Santiago Vizcaino and his translator Alexis Levitin at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 22, in Hemphill Hall, Room 134.

The reading is free and open to the public.

Vizcaino is the author of 鈥淒estruction in the Afternoon,鈥 which won the Premio Proyectos Literarios Nacionales of the Ecuadoran Ministry of Culture award in 2008. The book of poetry was also published bilingually this year by Lavender Ink/Dialogos Books in New Orleans.

His critical study of the poetry of Alejandra Pizarnik titled 鈥淪peaking Silence,鈥 won second prize in the Ministry of Culture鈥檚 essay competition. His first book of short stories, 鈥淭o Kill Mother鈥 was published in Buenos Aires in 2012.

Levitin鈥檚 translations have appeared in well over 200 magazines. His 35 books include Clarice Lispector鈥檚 鈥淪oulstorm,鈥 and Eugenio de Andrade鈥檚 鈥淔orbidden Words,鈥 both from New Directions.
