LSBDC at 网曝门 and LHEC to host affordable care act training for small businesses

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center, hosted by the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the Louisiana Healthcare Education Coalition are joining forces to educate small businesses about the Affordable Care Act.

鈥淭he Affordable Care Act is something that all small businesses should be aware of,鈥 said Rande Kessler, LSBDC state director.

鈥淥ur goal is to help small businesses across Louisiana better understand how the new laws may have an impact on their business, as well as equip them to make informed decisions.鈥

The presentation, titled 鈥淣avigating the Affordable Care Act,鈥 will take place from 8:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Anna Gray Noe Alumni Center, located at 4400 Bon Aire Drive in Monroe on the 网曝门 campus.

The seminar will cover key small business provisions of the federal healthcare law and the new Health Insurance Marketplace, which opened Oct. 1.

Specific topics include: Four questions employers must ask themselves; new rules for applicable large employers; definition of Affordable Coverage; taxes and penalties; grandfathering and current benefits to groups; and employee notification procedures.

Last year, through its partnership with Louisiana Economic Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration, the LSBDC statewide network served 17,000 entrepreneurs鈥攃reating 964 new jobs, 165 new businesses, $54 million in capital, and helping generate $17 million in new state income tax revenue.

Designated and funded as the state鈥檚 principal provider of small business assistance by Louisiana Economic Development, the Louisiana Small Business Development Center is the only statewide, nationally accredited program that provides business consulting to entrepreneurs at no cost.

Through a network of university and community college supported centers, the LSBDC provides high quality one-on-one consulting, training and information resources to empower new and existing businesses.
