网曝门 professors pen article about collaboration between English and Health Studies
University of Louisiana at Monroe faculty members Dr. Paula Griswold, assistant professor in the Department of Health Studies, and Dr. Sandra Hill, associate director of the School of Humanities and program coordinator of English, published an article, "Potential for Collaborative Writing in Professional Communication and Health Studies Through Service-Learning" in "Business Communication Quarterly," a peer-reviewed journal of the Association for Business Communication.
Teaching in professional writing and health studies respectively, Hill and Griswold have incorporated service-learning projects into their courses and included similar writing goals, and through employing different methodologies, they discovered similar outcomes.
Through assessment of student reflections and discussions of course results, both professors concluded there is potential for collaborative service-learning projects between the two disciplines.
The article discusses instructional approaches in the two courses, the theory and pedagogy on which the approaches are based, and practical ideas on how a collaborative professional writing/health studies service-learning project might be coordinated.
The authors believe these ideas may provide a model for collaboration across disciplines.
