Hawk Dynasty April 22-28; T-Pain to headline concert

The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Office of Student Life and Leadership and Campus Activities Board presents yet another great year of Spring Fever events, April 22-28.

This year’s theme has as special and local significance that is sure to please all who participate.

Spring Fever 2013, “Hawk Dynasty” will include a week full of fun, food, and events for the community.

The featured concert at 7 p.m., Friday, April 26, at the Monroe Civic Center, brings a host of talent including concert headliner and Grammy winner T-Pain, along with Chingy, and newcomer B. Smyth. Keldric “Kel” Bonton, current student and senior mass communications major from Alexandria, will also serve as an opening act, performing with “Trey P.”

Note: An * denotes events that are open to the public. All athletic events are open to the public. Cook-out events are geared toward students only.

Monday, April 22
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - CAB will lead the campus in observance of Earth Day, with Earth Day related activities and a lunch social in the Quad.

Students will receive potting materials from CAB for the growth of thyme and basil for placement in residence halls.

They will also receive literature from Sigma Tau Delta on the importance of recycling, and other information on conservation and nature will be provided by representatives from Black Bayou Wildlife Reserve.

Students will also enjoy organic fruits, and the Harry Potter Alliance will provide recycling bins and organization of a student “clean up day.”

5:30 to 6:30 p.m. - The Bookstore Fashion Show, hosted by the Bookstore.

8:30 p.m - Sponsored by CAB, the annual Spring Fever Movie, “Identity Thief,” will be shown in The Grove.


Tuesday, April 23
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Spring Fever Novelty Day, in the Quad with themed giveaways and snacks.

5 to 6 p.m. - The National Champion Water Ski Team will entertain spectators with the annual Ski Team ski show. *

6 p.m. - Warhawk Baseball will take on Mississippi Valley State at Warhawk Field. During the game, Athletics will hold a Duck Dynasty costume contest and a dizzy bat contest for attendees. *


Wednesday, April 24
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - The Baptist Collegiate Ministry will host a student luncheon in the Quad.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - CAB will host the College Recipe Swap in the Quad. 

12 Noon - The Uncle Si’s Sweet Tea Chugging Contest in the Quad.

During theses events in the quad, students will have the chance to help Miss , Amy Matherne raise money for Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Louisiana Organization by paying to participate in an egg drop.

Students will put their hand-eye coordination to the test as they try to land eggs on Miss from atop the Student Union Building balcony.

5 p.m. - Warhawk Softball will take on Central Arkansas at the softball field, located on Warhawk Way. This game is in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and is a “Teal Out.”

Duck Dynasty’s Korie Robertson will throw out the first pitch. Spectators are asked to wear teal to the game in support. *

6 p.m. - Warhawk Baseball game vs. Mississippi Valley State will take place at Warhawk Field. *

5:30 to 7 p.m - CAB will host a student crawfish boil during the game, also at Warhawk Field. Students must bring a valid I.D.


Thursday, April 25
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - CAB will host a lunch social in the Quad.

12 Noon to 1:30 p.m - Visual and Performing Arts, along with representatives from TOMS shoes, will host Piece for Paint, and Arts Improv in the Quad.

6 to 7:30 p.m - Students will have the chance to show their prowess in the Red Neck Olympics in Bayou Park. Pizza will be served.


Friday, April 26      
12 Noon - 4 p.m. - ’s 31 Ambassadors will host one of Spring Fever’s most popular events—Oozeball— from behind Malone Stadium.

6 p.m. - Warhawk Baseball will take on the University of South Alabama at Warhawk Field.*

7 p.m. - Monroe Civic Center, the annual Spring Fever Concert, sponsored CAB, will feature Grammy Winner T-Pain, along with Chingy, B. Smyth., Kel, and Trey P.*

Ticket Prices
Students: Floor: $30; Riser: $20; Level 100: $18; Level 200: $15

General Public: Floor: $40; Riser: $30; Level 100: $25; Level 200: $20

student prices are only valid via the Civic Center Box Office or by purchasing ticket at LaCapitol Federal Credit Union on campus.


Saturday, April 27
8:30 to 10 a.m. - ’s Up til’ Dawn organization will host Color Me Cured, from Color Me Cured is a 5k race in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Race day registration cost is $40. Registration through Thursday, April 25 is $35. Runners must arrive at 7:30 a.m. No registration will take place, Friday, April 26. *

6 p.m. - Warhawk Baseball will take on the University of South Alabama at Warhawk Field. Spectators can enjoy a Monroe Jaycee’s Rib Cook-Off during the game. *          

1 p.m. - On the Sand Volleyball Courts behind Heard Stadium, Sand Volleyball will take on Georgia State University.*


Sunday, April 28
1 p.m. - Warhawk Baseball will close out the week of events against the University of South Alabama at Warhawk Field. *
