New web site focuses on recruitment and consistency
The new University of Louisiana at Monroe web site emphasizes the university’s mission—recruitment and retention of students—while also ensuring a consistent, easy to navigate, and visually attractive look.
The new design is clean and modern, featuring a prominent photo feature, a special section dedicated to recruitment events, and links to application and information request forms.
President Dr. Nick J. Bruno said, “We are constantly exploring new ways for students to discover . A major facet of that exploration means creating technology that appeals to those potential students. This new web site ensures our future and current students can easily navigate our web site and enjoy the same great experience online as they do on our campus.”
In January 2012, under the direction of Executive Vice President Dr. Stephen Richters, ’s Computing Center began working with OmniUpdate to integrate a content management system and develop a new look for the website.
OmniUpdate has created more than 550 content management systems for higher education institutions.
’s Computing Center staff conducted a series of small focus groups comprised of faculty and staff with technology and recruitment expertise.
The computing center also surveyed deans and professional staff about their web site expectations.
In addition, ’s Marketing Committee reviewed the new design.
Rob Glaze, webmaster in the Computing Center, is the project director for this initiative.
He said, “A content management system ensures consistency in look, consistency in navigation, and consistency in a user's expectation. This system also provides a framework for multiple web contributors to provide and edit the web site content more efficiently.”
The web site overhaul will take place over the next several months as more departments and programs migrate their current site into the new content management system. Once in the new system, updating the university site will be much easier for web contributors.
's new web site is the most recent in a series of technology initiatives aimed at recruitment.
In June 2011, unveiled the mobile app, which has since been updated to include new features, such as classroom finders.
In September 2012, released a new virtual tour, allowing students and parents to experience the physical beauty of ’s campus.
