ÍøÆØÃÅ Water Ski Team to compete in 2012 National Championship tournament
The University of Louisiana at Monroe's National Champion Water Ski Team will vie for its 24th National Championship in the 2012 National Collegiate Water Ski Association (NCWSA) National Championship Tournament, Oct. 18-20, in Zachary.
Bennett's Water Ski and Wakeboard School will host the event, which is free and open to the public.
The ÍøÆØÃÅ Water Ski Team holds 23 NCWSA titles, winning 23 of the 33 years the competition has been held.
"It will be great to compete for our 24th National Championship title in our home state of Louisiana, two years in a row," said Treina Landrum, director of ÍøÆØÃÅ Recreational Services and Water Ski Team coach.
"We are inviting ÍøÆØÃÅ students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to attend the tournament to support us and see some fantastic skiing."
Spectators will see the best of collegiate skiing, with 28 teams from across the nation competing in the NCWSA National Championship Tournament.
"Nationals is always tough; we don't take anything for granted," said Landrum. "The team has worked hard, and we are ready."
According to Landrum, ÍøÆØÃÅ has had a strong fall season of skiing. The ÍøÆØÃÅ Water Ski Team won the University of Texas Fall Classic, and their home tournament—the Fall 2012 Bayou Classic.
The team also won the South Central Regional Tournament held in San Marcos, Texas, Oct. 6-7.
"The ÍøÆØÃÅ Water Ski Team wishes to thank the ÍøÆØÃÅ students, faculty, staff, administration, Dean Blackett of PAC Environmental Services, and the local business community for their continued support," said Landrum.
