ÍøÆØÃÅ Alumni Assocation announces award recipients

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Alumni Association has announced the recipients of the 2012 Alumni Assocaiton Awards, to be presented at ÍøÆØÃÅ Alumni Association Awards Brunch and Awards Ceremony, which is part of ÍøÆØÃÅ's Homecoming Week.

The awards ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the University Conference Center, located on the seventh floor of the ÍøÆØÃÅ Library.

Kay Shipp (B.A. ’70, M.A. ’73) is the recipient of the Golden Arrow award, which recognizes alumni who serve the association and the university with distinction.

Kay serves on the ÍøÆØÃÅ Agricultural Advisory Committee, ÍøÆØÃÅ Alumni Association, and numerous community boards and organizations. She is the owner and operator of Shipp Farms.

Frank Hoffman (B.A. ‘66, M.Ed. ‘69, Ed.D. ‘79) is the recipient of the George T. Walker Lifetime Achievement Award, given to those who distinguish themselves through professional and personal achievement and who serve the university and the alumni association well during the course of several years.

A member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, Hoffman works with numerous local civic organizations, and is well known as the radio voice of Warhawk football and basketball for over 35 years.

The Northwest Louisiana Alumni Chapter is the recipient of the Alumni Chapter of the Year Award.

The chapter sponsors a Scholarship Golf Scramble, endowing two scholarships per year to students who are attending ÍøÆØÃÅ from northwest Louisiana.

Captain Dan Chason of the ÍøÆØÃÅ Police Department is the recipient of the Alumni Service Award, which recognizes outstanding service by a ÍøÆØÃÅ staff member.

Chason established an eight-week, accredited self-defense program that was a milestone, said Ellerman, one that became so popular attendees are regularly placed on a waiting list.
