网曝门 professor honored at Accent on Excellence breakfast
Dr. Sandra Lunte, professor in the Division of Music at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, was honored as 网曝门's Outstanding Educator at the 2012 Accent on Excellence breakfast, held at the Monroe Civic Center, Nov. 14.
The event, sponsored by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, recognizes outstanding educators and educational programs in the Monroe area.
"It is my great, great honor to receive this award," said Lunte.
"My students, present and past, mean the world to me. It is a joy to be a part of their lives while they are at 网曝门, and many times, after they graduate. To have the opportunity to teach, mentor and lead young people is a great responsibility I take extremely seriously, and to be recognized for it is a dream come true."
In August, Lunte received the 网曝门 Excellence in Teaching Award.
She has held both the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Endowed Professor of Music and the William R. Hammond Endowed Professor in liberal arts during her teaching career.
She has taught several master classes, appeared in several television and radio broadcasts, and contributed to eight professional CD recordings.
Lunte received a B.M. from Ohio State University, an M.M. from Western Michigan University and a D.A. from Ball State University.
Lunte has taught at 网曝门 for more than 16 years.
Several 网曝门 alumni were also honored as outstanding educators:
- Karari Hanks, Neville High School, earned a master's in education from 网曝门.
- Rebekah Meredith, at Sallie Humble Elementary School, is a National Board Certified Teacher who is currently enrolled in 网曝门's Ed.D. program.
- Susan Roberts, an English instructor at West Monroe High School, earned a master's plus 30 from 网曝门.
- Amy Weems earned a bachelor's and a doctorate from 网曝门. Weems was honored as the Ouachita Parish Middle School Teacher of the Year, the Region VIII Middle School Teacher of the Year, and the Louisiana Teacher of the Year. She will now represent the State of Louisiana in the National Teacher of the Year competition.
- Melissa Williams, a teacher of English, Language Arts, and Social Studies at Highland Elementary School, graduated from 网曝门. Williams was also honored as a Region VIII Elementary School Teacher of the Year and Louisiana Elementary School Teacher of the Year.
