Warhawk Wake Board Team to perform Oct. 1

The Warhawk Wake Board Team will compete Saturday, Oct. 1 between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Bayou DeSiard by Bon Aire, the university residence that houses the president.

This competition gives the team an opportunity to host a regional qualifier for Alt Games, the collegiate national championships for college teams in the sports of wakeboarding, skateboarding, snow skiing, snowboarding, flowboarding, surfing, beach volleyball, and ultimate frisbee.

Alt Games runs repeatedly during the spring on the CBS Sports Network.

Nick McDonald, alumni advisor to the Warhawk Wake Team, explained that, "These are basically the sports that the NCAA doesn't sanction, but schools from across the country have them."

The surface water sport called wakeboarding was developed from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques.

The regional tournament is open to teams from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, including schools like the 2010 National Champion University of Texas, Baylor University, and 2011's fourth-ranked Oklahoma State University-Stillwater.

The tournament is sponsored by ÍøÆØÃÅ, Warhawk Wake, Slingshot Wakeboards, Louisiana Wakeboarding, and B&L Marine.

Admission is free. Fans will have the chance to win many prizes and giveaways. A disc jockey will play music and give live commentary of the competition.
