Secretary of State inducts museum into Heroes and Heritage Trail
ÍøÆØÃÅ's Museum of Natural History left a big impression on Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler during a campus visit last summer.
On Oct. 20 during another stop at the museum, he signed an agreement with ÍøÆØÃÅ President Dr. Nick Bruno, inducting the historical treasure into the Heroes and Heritage Trail.
The Heroes and Heritage Trail passport highlights 17 Louisiana museums, including the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum in Monroe and the Eddie G. Robinson Museum in Grambling.
Visitors are encouraged to collect stamps from at least 11 of the museums. Once they do, they are eligible for an overnight stay at Louisiana's State Capitol in Baton Rouge.
The Museum of Natural History, now 50 years old, will be touted on the Secretary of State website, and it will also be included in all printed promotional materials produced by that office.
Museum curator Gary Stringer was overjoyed at the new honor bestowed on the museum, located on the third floor of Sandel Hall. "This kind of recognition will literally, put us on the map."
