College of Business honors academic excellence at honors banquet

The College of Business Administration at the University of Louisiana at Monroe held its 43rd Annual Honors Banquet Friday, May 6, to honor outstanding students in the College of Business Administration. Awards were given to students for their hard work and dedication to business.

The highest award given to a graduate from the College of Business Administration was the 2010-2011 DeanÕs Award of Excellence presented to Ashlyn Labat of Denham Springs who received $1,000. Labat also received the Outstanding Graduate in Accounting Award and the Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Undergraduate Award.

The 2010-2011 Distinguished Scholar Award, which included $750, was presented to Taylor Hill of Heath, Texas. Hill also received the Outstanding Graduate in Marketing Award.

The 2010-2011 Outstanding Scholar Award, which included $500, went to Ruslan Hemed of Jerusalem, Israel. Hemed also received the Outstanding Graduate in Finance Award.

The Award of Commendation, which included $250, went to Rachel Stark of Jefferson City, Mo. Stark also received the Outstanding Graduate in Risk Management and Insurance Award. Outstanding awards by program included:

Amanda Strope of Longmont, Colo., was selected by the graduate faculty of the College of Business Administration as the Outstanding Master of Business Administration Graduate for the 2010 calendar year.

Trevor Hall of Sanger, Texas, received the Outstanding Graduate in Aviation Award.

Matthew Hendricks of West Monroe received the Outstanding Graduate in Computer Information Systems Award.

Paul Jones of Monroe received the Outstanding Graduate in Computer Science Award.

Andrew Barber of Baton Rouge received the Outstanding Graduate in Construction Management Award.

John Laing of Sterlington received the Outstanding Graduate in Economics Award.

Brook Sebren of Rayville received the Outstanding Graduate in Entrepreneurship Award.

Emily Swart of Pineville received the Outstanding Graduate in General Business Award.

Abigail DeSoto of Pleasant Hill received the Outstanding Graduate in Management Award.

Graduating senior awards were presented to students who have stayed the course to graduation and have distinguished themselves in their major. Selected were:

Cortney Antley, of West Monroe, marketing; Cole Constance, of Pollock, risk management and insurance; Sharon Elliott, of Bossier City, general business; Chad Hargon, of Monroe, aviation; Chad Henson, of Chatham, construction management; Caitlin Herrock, of Monroe, management; Jacob Linder, of West Monroe, finance; Heather Simmons, of Anacoco, computer science; Sarah Slater, of Alexandria, accounting.

Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honorary fraternity for collegiate business students, selected its outstanding students. The Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Junior Scholarship, which included a $1,000 scholarship for 2010-2011, was awarded to Fernando Cordova of Monroe.

The Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding MBA member is Amanda McLure of Monroe. The Chapter Honoree is Mr. Thomas J. DeNardin.

Juniors initiated into Beta Gamma Sigma were Maggie Gras of Bossier City; Claudia Williams of Mangham; and Benjamin Winkler of Plain Dealing.

Seniors initiated into Beta Gamma Sigma were Cortney Antley and Courtney Williams of West Monroe; Fernando Cordova, Kelsi Siudy and Benjamin Wilkins of Monroe; Ana Burjaili of Bebedouro, Brazil; Britney Crow of Delhi; Brittany McGee of Greenwood; Victoria Hunter of Rayville; Kristi Tatum of Rocky Branch; and Chandani Patel of Winnfield.

Master of Business Administration students recognized for Beta Gamma Sigma membership include Si Mon Ho of Hong Kong, Amanda McLure and Andrew Eaton of Monroe, and Guillermo Valderrama of Venezuela. Jaunicia Mercer of Columbia received Second Recognition Masters.
