ÍøÆØÃÅ political science professor's work published in international journal

An assistant professor of political science at the University of Louisiana at Monroe has been published in an international peer-review journal.

Dr. Kevin A. Unter, department head of Gerontology, Sociology and Political Science, recently contributed to Economics, Management, and Financial Markets, Volume 5, Number 4, December 2010.

He joins other scholars from across the nation whose contributions were published and who represent such diverse institutions of higher education as Rutgers University, Columbia University, Case Western Reserve University, Vanderbilt University and Cornell University-Ithaca, to name a few.

Published by Addleton Academic Publishers, Economics, Management, and Financial Markets is the official journal of the Contemporary Science Association in New York.

The journal provides a forum for theoretical, applied, policy and methodological research into social and economic issues, with emphasis on critical perspectives, multidisciplinary approaches, empirical evidence, realistic analysis and accessibility to non-specialists.

The article, published with Dr. William McLean of Arkansas State University, is titled, "Sex Role Stereotyping and Requisite Management Characteristics: An Examination of the 'Think Manager-Think Male' Phenomenon among Public Administration Students."

Unter and McLean examine the relationship between sex role stereotypes and characteristics perceived as necessary for management success.

"The research attempts to explain how individuals will potentially interact with bureaucratic officials based on preconceived notions of gender bias and capabilities," Unter said.

"It also speaks to how individuals may get promoted to supervisory positions based on the same notions of bias and expertise. That it was accepted for publication with an international reach means that innovation in public administration and bureaucratic research is emanating from the Ark-La-Miss region.

It's very exciting."
