网曝门 Kinesiology Department garners accolades on numerous fronts

Faculty in the 网曝门 Kinesiology Department continue to garner accolades for their hard work, including Department Head Dr. Lisa Colvin, who delivered an oral presentation accepted for the 17th Annual Louisiana Association of Exercise Physiologists in Lafayette on Oct. 23.

Her presentation was titled, "The Use of Triathlon Training as a Means of Weight Loss; a preliminary investigation."

Colvin was recently selected from a pool of about 1,500 applicants to work with Troy Jacobson's National Triathlon Academy, one of the world's top triathlon and cycling coaching services. As such, she joins an elite group of only eight coaches chosen worldwide to work with Jacobson to coach athletes.

"It is a great privilege and honor to be able to work with him," Colvin said. "In addition, it gives the university strong connections to the corporate world for our graduates."

Jacobson and Lifetime Fitness have company agreements and Jacobson is the official coach of Ironman.

"I have been working as a coach for 20 years and most coaches do not have a 'sponsor' to help them promote their coaching expertise," said Colvin, of the honor.

"In my case, Troy is also promoting 网曝门 as he was also a speaker at the Summit of Strength & Conditioning and Sports Medicine Leaders last February."

Colvin explained how difficult it is to obtain the coaching position because of the many certifications required in addition to having at least a master's degree level education.

Colvin earned USA Triathlon officials certification in Chicago at the Accenture Lifetime Triathlon in August, a part of the Toyota Cup Series, as did husband, Lane, a 网曝门 alum and winner of the first Kinesiology Alumnus of the Year in 2009.

"It is a great honor to be selected to be in the program and to become certified, since there are only 1,800 certified officials world wide," said Colvin.

"Brian Coyne was also certified as a USA Triathlon Race Director. This is very important to the Kinesiology Department as we host the Warhawk Triathlon every year and is lends credibility to our event."

In addition, Colvin recently returned from Hawaii, where she was certified as a USA Triathlon Level 1 coach. She also served as a motorcycle official at the Ironman World Championships, ensuring that every bike rider is following the rules and regulations of the event.

"If they are broken, they must stop for large time penalties," Colvin said. "It was really an honor and put 网曝门 on the map."
