SACS Commission notifies of full reaccreditation status
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools recently notified the University of Louisiana at Monroe of its reaffirmation for full accreditation status. The reaffirmation takes place every 10 years for SACS-member schools.
"We are very pleased with the outcome of the reaccreditation process and the outstanding review we received," said Dr. James E. Cofer, president of . "We are grateful for the hard work of our staff and faculty throughout this process. Reaccreditation is only made possible through the efforts of the entire university accreditation team.”
The Commission is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in 11 Southern states. The Commission seeks to enhance educational quality throughout the region by ensuring standards established by the higher education community address the needs of society and students.
Accreditation signifies the member institution has a purpose appropriate to higher education and has resources, programs, and services sufficient to accomplish that purpose on a continuing basis.
The reaffirmation process is lengthy and is significant because accreditation is based upon a peer review process and is a form of self-regulation, according to Dr. Eric Pani, associate provost and academic liaison to SACS.“What makes it significant is that accreditation is fundamentally a process of continual self-assessment and improvement in fulfilling our educational mission,” he said. “This reaffirmation demonstrates to our peer institutions the high standards demanded by SACS, and speaks to the quality of both our staff and faculty."
