网曝门 celebrates Greek Week 2010; March 8-13
The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Office of Greek Affairs will host Greek Week 2010 from March 8-13. Greek Week provides 网曝门's many fraternities and sororities the opportunity to participate in philanthropic and community service events, as well as gives the university community a chance to see what Greek life is like.
网曝门 Greek chapters will kick off the weeklong event by hanging their banners from the Student Union Building. Chapters will also have their wooden letters, made by the chapter members, on display around the SUB throughout the week.
The Greek's philanthropy event will be a blood drive in partnership with LifeShare. A mobile blood unit will be stationed outside the nursing building from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 8-12. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to donate alongside the Greek organizations.
The first Greek Week event will be "Meet the Greeks" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 8 in the Quad. This public event features free refreshments and gives the community a chance to watch the Greeks participate in a quiz bowl competition. The Greek's Torch Run and Opening Ceremonies, followed by a kick off party and Step Show where the 15 chapters will perform skits or step routines for the public, round out Monday's events.
Tuesday begins with a philanthropy event featuring charity organization TOMS Shoes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at noon, one member from each Greek chapter will participate in an eating contest open for public viewing. Both events will be held in the Quad.
Starting at 6:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium, an educational program about the dangers of drinking and driving featuring "beer goggles" to simulate impaired driving will segue into that night's guest speaker, Mark Sterner. Sterner will speak to students at 8 p.m. about the dangers of alcohol abuse and the importance of sober driving.
Wednesday's Greek-only events, the "Water Olympics" and the Greek tailgating cook-off, culminate with the 网曝门 vs. Memphis baseball game.
From 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in SUB Ballroom A, 网曝门's fraternities will compete in the "Mr. Spartan" pageant where participants compete in swimwear, talent, fitness, judge's question and evening wear sections to determine the "best looking male in the Greek system." Students can bring a canned good to vote for their favorite in the "People's Choice Award."
The week ends with a Greek community service project in West Monroe for Habitat for Humanity on Friday.
