网曝门鈥檚 GOLD adds psychology degree to online offerings

Expansion of online learning initiatives continues at the University of Louisiana at Monroe with the addition of a bachelor鈥檚 of arts degree in psychology, giving non-traditional students accessibility to an ever broadening range of college degrees.

网曝门鈥檚 Gateway to OnLine Degrees program, or GOLD, which is the clearinghouse for online degrees, offers the opportunity for students to enroll in its psychology program, which already reports a growing number of students and a large number pursing a degree.

Most of 网曝门鈥檚 psychology faculty and instructors have been teaching for many years and students report high satisfaction with their psychology classes, according to program officials.

鈥淏ecause of the popularity of 网曝门's psychology program we anticipate students not only from the state but also across the nation to enroll in this newly offered, fully online degree.鈥 said Robyn Jordan, coordinator of accelerated learning at 网曝门, adding, 鈥渆specially since students are able to maintain their position in the workforce and provide for their families while continuing their education.鈥

Dr. David Williamson, department head for the department of psychology at the College of Education and Human Development, said that some of the program鈥檚 popularity stems from the fact that the field provides a knowledge base for understanding human behavior that has wide applications in professions like law, medicine, teaching, business, and other fields.

"We are expanding knowledge and exploring the mind,鈥 he said.

Psychology, which is the scientific study of animal and human behavior, is a broad and diverse discipline that ranges from studies of brain function to studies of behavior.

Graduates of the 网曝门 program are eligible to pursue a variety of careers because of its foundation in four major content areas including research methods, biological and behavioral processes, cognitive studies, and social behavior and development, according to Williamson.
