marketing students bring home the gold at local ADDY awards

University of Louisiana at Monroe marketing students walked away from another Advertising Club of Northeast Louisiana ADDY Awards program with numerous honors this year, including a student Best of Show win for Joffre Shivers of Shreveport. Best of Show is the highest honor for which a student is eligible.

Shivers has been a participant in the program since his freshman year and since then, has won two Gold awards, a Best Execution award, and more recently, a Silver award, in addition to his Best of Show award.

“I put my all into my work,” said Shivers. “Never has a first draft resembled the final draft. I am my biggest critic and I will pick at an ad until I can no longer pick at it anymore. I try to think outside the box.”

Shivers said he finds great satisfaction in that one prior award and the current two awards he earned were all for fictitious companies springing forth from his imagination.

Judges Awards were also given to Tatiana Hernandez of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., for Best Use of Potty Humor, and Alexis Krigbaum of Monroe for Best Execution of a Concept. A total of 15 students out of the 43 who submitted entries earned honors in this year’s competition.

“We always encourage our students to participate in the competition,” said Dr. Kenneth Clow, ’s Biedenharn Endowed Chair in Business. “We are fortunate that our local ad club provides excellent support for them.”

Clow said has submitted entries to the competition since 2004 and almost always receive positive attention for the student submissions. The American Federation of Advertisers Northeast Louisiana Chapter sponsors the event every year.
