网曝门 Department of Foreign Languages presents at West Monroe High School

On April 30, University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Foreign Languages faculty and students presented a cultural day to students at West Monroe High School.

The French, Latin and Spanish teachers at the school organized the event: Deanna Ford, Paul Smith, Joyce Myers, Lindsey Stone, and Scott Nelson. A program of music, cultural presentations and language lessons was designed by 网曝门, and all foreign language students at West Monroe had the opportunity to attend.

Graduate students in the 网曝门 School of Music presented the Musical Instruments and Rhythms of Latin America. They invited student volunteers to learn to play different percussion instruments and then put all their work together to perform.

Professor Charles Holloway discussed the origins of Mexican food, the influence of Europeans on the food, and the results found from Mexico through the Southwest United States.

Professor Carlos Fandal gave a PowerPoint presentation on the excavations in Pompei and discussed the Roman culture and how modern archaeologists are working to reconstruct the remains. He also taught the students about the evolution of French and Spanish from Latin roots.

Associate Professor Chris Michaelides brought a series of commercials in French and pointed out the similarities and differences as seen through publicity.

Akiko Fujino, a communications graduate student from Shiba, Japan, taught a number of words and greetings in Japanese and discussed several cultural points.

Assistant Professor James McKeithen made a presentation on Arabic culture.

Assistant Professor Christian Rubio and members of the 网曝门 Honors Program discussed the importance of learning a foreign language and the need to include it in future plans and careers.
