Louisiana Cancer Foundation presents funds to College of Pharmacy
Paul Sylvester, Ph.D., gratefully accepted a $20,000 check from the Louisiana Cancer Foundation on Tuesday with University of Louisiana at Monroe President James Cofer and other university leaders in attendance.
Sylvester accepted the check on behalf of the College of Pharmacy, where he is leading a team of scientists researching possible treatments for various forms of cancer.
Foundation Director Virginia Knickerbocker commended Sylvester and his team for their work just before the check presentation, but she also spoke of Sylvester’s frequent contact with cancer support groups.
“It’s inspiring,” she said.
“The Foundation has been very generous in donating money to help us continue our efforts,” said Sylvester, who is the Pfizer Endowed Professor of Pharmacology and Director of Graduate Studies and Research.
“I can’t tell you how important this is to us,” he said.
Added Cofer, “We’re proud of Dr. Sylvester’s work, we’re proud of his team, and we’re very pleased the Foundation would honor us by helping this research to continue.”
This is the fourth year that the Foundation awarded increased amounts of funding to the College of Pharmacy.
