Travelers Insurance Executive to visit students of ÍøÆØÃÅ Risk Management and Insurance Program March 2
The ÍøÆØÃÅ Risk Management and Insurance program continues its tradition of hosting distinguished national insurance executives with a visit and presentation from Raul R. Allegue, vice president, government relations for Travelers, a leading provider of property casualty insurance for auto, home and business.
Allegue will speak at a meeting of the Risk Management Insurance Society from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on March 2, in the Administration Building, Room 238, on the ÍøÆØÃÅ campus.
He will share his vast experiences in the insurance industry, beginning with the actuarial and financial functions he performed as chief financial officer of the claims division, followed by his current role as vice president of government relations. Allegue will also speak with students of two risk management and insurance classes at ÍøÆØÃÅ on March 3.
Upon graduation from Central Connecticut State University in 1981, Allegue joined Aetna’s actuarial department and served in a variety of financial functions, including chief financial officer of the company’s property/casualty claim operations. In 1990, he became Aetna’s Director of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Officer for property/casualty.
When Aetna’s and Travelers’ property/casualty operations merged in 1996, Allegue became Vice President of Government Relations, responsible for advancing the company’s legislative and regulatory agenda, with particular emphasis on Business Insurance, the company’s largest division. He has been instrumental in the passage of legislation on a broad array of issues important to the insurance industry, such as civil justice reform, regulatory modernization and taxation.
He serves in a variety of leadership positions within the insurance industry including, among other things, serving on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Insurance Federation, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Insurance Association of Connecticut, and as an active member of several committees of the American Insurance Association. Since emigrating from Cuba with his family at the age of 10, Allegue has resided in the Greater Hartford, Conn., area.
The Risk Management and Insurance program has a long history of bringing leading business professionals to campus to interact and share with ÍøÆØÃÅ students. On March 5, the program will feature Brian VanDreumel, chief actuary for Farm Bureau Louisiana, who will discuss insurance ratemaking for students enrolled in Insurance Operations and Surplus Lines and Reinsurance classes.
Speakers from Houston, Scottsdale, Ariz., and New York City, representing the surplus lines and reinsurance industries (including the president of XL's Excess and Surplus Lines Division) are also scheduled for RMI Society Meetings in the near future.
