Student Health Services to continue H1N1 vaccinations

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Student Health Services will continue to offer the H1N1 vaccine to certain high-risk groups free of charge and without an appointment. The shots are available to faculty, staff, students and their families.

Vaccinations will be administered Monday through Thursday from 8 to 11 a.m., and from 1 to 4 p.m. The vaccine is offered on Fridays from 8 to 11 a.m.

Student Health Services officials were notified Thursday that the state has updated the eligibility list for H1N1 to include teachers, faculty and staff, regardless of age, and persons who live with or care for those who are disabled. SHS also has received the vaccine for infants from 6 to 35 months.

High-risk groups include persons from two to 24-years-old, persons 25-49 who live with or provide care for infants younger than six months, health care or emergency medical services personnel, and pregnant women and persons 25-64 who have certain medical conditions or impaired immune system, such as diabetes, asthma or heart/lung disease.
