网曝门PD facility assists area agencies to conduct field sobriety checks

Chief of Police Larry Ellerman announced Wednesday the opening of the Intoxilyzer 5000 testing facility at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, available to any law enforcement agency 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The facility is located at 407 University Ave., just north of DeSiard Street in the 网曝门 parking garage. 网曝门 police dispatchers will notify the on-duty shift supervisor to grant access to any requesting agency that contacts the 网曝门 Police Department at (318) 342-5350.

The garage is under shelter, which allows officers to conduct the test regardless of weather. The rear access may be utilized at officer discretion with both the garage and Intox room monitored by installed video cameras to document the offender鈥檚 actions while being tested.

鈥淐hief Ellerman and his staff are to be commended for their collaborative effort, which not only provides protection for our students, but also partners 网曝门 with state and local agencies to protect our community,鈥 said 网曝门 President James E. Cofer.

All of the necessary paperwork is available in the testing room, including testing supplies, paperwork and affidavits, said Ellerman, who added that 网曝门PD officers would be available to provide additional security while testing is conducted, if needed. Ellerman also said 网曝门PD would make every effort to provide a certified SFST officer for area agencies needing assistance in conducting the test.

鈥淚t is our hope that this addition will facilitate a smoother, less time consuming option for area agencies to combat impaired driving,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e encourage area law enforcement officers to utilize this tool and we look forward to serving our fellow agencies in this vital area.鈥

Louisiana State Police provided the machine through Applied Technology, a subsidiary of the LSP.
