President’s Concert to celebrate the musical arts Oct. 7 at
“An Evening of Musical Fantasy” will entertain audience members attending the President’s Concert at the University of Louisiana Monroe Tuesday, Oct. 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.
Division of Music faculty members will honor President Jim Cofer and First Lady Deborah Cofer, strong advocates of the arts at the university and in Louisiana. A fantastic evening of music performed by the renowned and virtuosic School of Music faculty is on the schedule; all styles will be played in artistic collaboration.
In particular, one of Dr. Cofer’s favorite pieces, "Lento e Largo," the Second Movement of Henryk Górecki's Symphony No. 3, and also titled the "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs," will be featured by the Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jason Rinehart with soprano soloist Claire Vangelisti.
Performing will be Richard Seiler, Coralie White, Deborah Guillory, and Sonia Hsu, pianists; Sandra Lunte, flute; Scot Humes, clarinet; Marilynn Gibson, trumpet; Micah Everett, trombone; James Boldin, horn; Christopher Thompson, violin; Mark McCleery, cello; Mel Mobley, percussion and composer; bassoonist David Gibson; conductor Jason Rinehart; singers Vangelisti and Matthew James, the new associate dean of Visual and Performing Arts. The Chamber Orchestra will also play on the program.
