Educational Tools for Success Conference to share innovative technology with educators Nov. 13-14

Over 200 educators throughout Louisiana, ranging from preschool to university instruction, will attend a free two-day, multi-session conference, Educational Tools for Success, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Library, and concluding Friday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. Sessions will occur at the Student Union Building and at Strauss Hall.

Rep. Frank Hoffmann, the keynote speaker, will give a presentation Nov. 13, at 8 a.m. in the Conference Center ( Library, seventh floor) on helping Louisiana teachers provide a world-class education for children.

Attendees will learn an array of strategies, techniques and tools in order to advance their teaching environments. Sessions are geared toward the latest research in the educational field, innovative ideas, use of new technologies to improve student learning, and information to help reach students on all levels of learning.

Forty-nine expert presenters will cover topics such as “Digital Information in the Classroom,” “Strategies for Student Engagement,” “Podcasting,” “Assistive Technology for the Visually Impaired,” “Gen X + Gen Y = New Challenges,” “Increasing the Rigor of the Senior Year,” and more.

Dr. Thilla Sivakumaran, assistant dean of Assessment and Accreditation and developer of the ETS Conference, stated, “As we developed this conference, we made it our goal to provide an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various education related fields from all over the country to come together and learn from each other. Also, the conference is to provide a place for academicians and professionals with cross-disciplinary interests related to education to meet and interact with members inside and outside their own particular disciplines.”

This conference is hosted by the College of Education and Human Development, the Region VIII Center for Assistive Technology and the Region VIII Teaching, Learning and Technology Center. All attendees are able to participate in all sessions, free of charge.
