网曝门 pharmacy graduates to serve in new residency program

Two graduates from the University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy have been chosen to serve as residents at the Louisiana State University-Huey P. Long Medical Center Outpatient Care Clinic, located at the England Industrial Airpark and Community in Alexandria.

This new residency program is being funded by The Rapides Foundation, a charitable organization that provides grants to fund prescription medications through the outpatient pharmacy at Huey P. Long Medical Center.

The 网曝门 graduates, Dr. Carole Renee Pickett of West Monroe and Dr. Spencer Landis of Monroe, are the first to participate in this new residency partnership between LSU-Huey P. Long Medical Center and 网曝门鈥檚 COP. Each week, 网曝门 COP faculty will travel to Alexandria to provide oversight, instruction and mentorship for these residents.

Pickett and Landis will begin their residencies July 1, 2007 and serve until June 30, 2008. During their residencies, they will gain practical and clinical research experience in an ambulatory care pharmacy setting. Their primary responsibilities will be to monitor medication therapies in patients suffering from diseases such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia and Hypertension. They will also educate patients in various areas of disease management such as smoking cessation.

Landis, a summer 2007 graduate, is excited about conducting the patient smoking cessation program. "... Through this residency, I will learn how to strategize and equip myself with the knowledge to aid patients in their roads to cessation." she said.

The LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, which also has a partnership with 网曝门鈥檚 COP, collaborates with the LSU-Huey P. Long Medical Center as well.

"This is an integrated working relationship among three major Louisiana institutions," said Lamar Pritchard, 网曝门鈥檚 COP dean. "The ultimate goal of this new clinical pharmacy residency program will be to enhance patient care through a multidisciplinary collaborative approach."
