Paxton Oliver to speak at commencement August 11
Paxton Oliver, associate dean of the College of Health Sciences, will speak at the University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 2007 Summer Commencement Saturday, August 11 at 2 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Oliver is currently a professor in the 网曝门 Department of Communicative Disorders and is associate dean of the College of Health Sciences. He received his doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1981, his master鈥檚 degree in speech language pathology from Louisiana Tech in 1975, his certification in speech and hearing therapy from 网曝门/NLU in 1973, and his bachelor鈥檚 degree in government from 网曝门/NLSC in 1968.
Oliver served as CODI department head for 11 years, and for 30 years taught Methods of Research while teaching/supervising in his field of expertise: stuttering, dysphagia, and neurophysiology. He has published in national journals and has made numerous refereed presentations at the international, national, and state levels.
He has co-written Health Resources and Services Administration along with Board of Regents grants for over $600,000, was a member of the Louisiana Speech and Hearing Association Board of Directors from 2002-2004, was awarded the 网曝门 Outstanding Professor in the College in 1997, was the Region 8 Mental Health Advisory Board Chair from 1993-1996, was awarded the 网曝门 CODI Endowed Professorship in 1993, and presented at the First International Symposium on Stuttering Therapy in Budapest, Hungary in 1993.
He is married to Nelda Culpepper (网曝门/NLSC, 1968) Oliver and has three sons and seven grandchildren.
