Trauma Therapy Training Set for Jan. 9-11 at ÍøÆØÃÅ

To better prepare mental health professionals for trauma and grief work, the University of Louisiana at Monroe Counseling Center, the College of Education and Human Development and the College of Arts and Sciences are sponsoring a three-day workshop on trauma therapy, Jan. 9-11, 2006 in the ÍøÆØÃÅ Conference Center.

In the aftermath of Katrina and Rita, mental health professionals are now beginning to see the psychological and emotional effects of the trauma many individuals faced and are still facing.

Topics include how to provide trauma therapy, the basics of the three-phase model of treatment of PTSD, a short-term behavioral model of treatment; long-term planning for trauma therapy; and vicarious traumatization.

Marguerite McCormack, M.A., LPC will teach the conference. McCormack is the Director of Trauma Services, Jefferson Center for Mental Health, Arvada, Colorado; Executive Director of International Trauma Consultants; and the principal author and presenter of the Colorado State Training in Crisis Counseling. She was the project director for Columbine Connections, the community-based response to the shootings at Columbine High School, for the duration of the program.

McCormack has received the Award of Excellence in Community Crisis Response Category (2001) from the National Behavioral Healthcare Council for her development of Columbine Connections and the Exemplary Service Award as Direct Service Provider from the Colorado Child and Adolescent Mental Health Coalition (2001 – 2002).

Trauma Therapy Training will provide 18 continuing education units through the National Board of Certified Counselors and the Louisiana Counseling Association. Documentation will be provided to participants in all specialties for use in securing CE credits for their perspective licensure boards and/or professional associations.

Please contact Denise Pani at dpani@ulm.edu or 318-342-5220 for information on registration fees or if you are interested in attending the conference. Anyone is welcome to attend.
