New Apartments Open for 网曝门 Students and Other 网曝门 Construction Updates
The University of Louisiana at Monroe officially opened its newly constructed on-campus student apartments at a ribbon cutting today at 4 p.m. The event occurred at the finished apartments located on 4300 Bon Aire Dr. (near Fant-Ewing Coliseum) and is the latest in 网曝门's overall campus makeover.
网曝门 President James E. Cofer Sr., along with other 网曝门, Regions Bank and JPI officials, attended the event.
Cofer said, "This is another great day at 网曝门. It was only last summer that we announced our plans to build new apartments for our students. Now, the new apartments are ready and we want to show everyone our progress. I sincerely thank all of those involved with this project. I know our students thank you as well."
The new apartment buildings are state-of-the art. The amenities include many electrical capabilities and services, as well as high-speed internet, phone, cable, and expanded cable with HBO, just to name a few. Each apartment building consists of private bedrooms that will share a common living room and kitchen with no more than two students sharing a restroom. A washer and dryer are included in each unit.
Parking will also be greatly enhanced. "When the new dorms open, we will move 400 cars to the other side of the bayou," said President Cofer. "This opens up parking for the West side of campus."
The completed apartments mark a halfway point in the construction at 网曝门. According to the projected schedule, the buildings will all be completed by the fall of next year, 2006.
The new suites where Olin Hall once stood are currently being built and will be ready this spring semester. A conference area on the first floor will also open at that time, right along the bayou.
The new 470-bed residence hall suite buildings are also in the construction phase. These two buildings will stand where Slater Hall, the post office, campus police and Monroe Hall used to be located.
Building projects other than residential facilities are also under construction. The new student health center will be completed this fall and plans for construction on a new student union building are in the works. The union is planned for completion by late fall of 2006.
