Eighth Annual 网曝门 Student Juried Art Exhibition Now Showing
The Bry Art Gallery at the University of Louisiana at Monroe is currently showing the Eighth Annual 网曝门 Student Juried Art Exhibition. Sponsored by the Division of Art and the School of Visual and Performing Arts, this exhibition opportunity was created in order to recognize student achievement in the visual arts and to provide students with the experience in presentation of art works on a professional level.
Students currently enrolled at the university were eligible to submit in competition up to three works in any studio medium. The Division of Art faculty served as competition jurors and curated an exhibition of 35 works to be included in this competition. Area professional artist Jerry Lyles reviewed the installed exhibition and selected the award winners.
Receiving the Gretchen Dean Best in Show Cash Award was Michele Smith in recognition of her figurative digital print photograph titled "Before the Buffalo". The Kirby Atan Alumni Cash Award of Excellence was received by Kelly Fuller for her landscape achromatic lithograph titled "Ross' Road Number Two". The Division of Art cash award was received by Philip Peyton for his mixed media freestanding sculpture titled "Conversation Piece."
Other awards selected by Lyles were the outstanding example of Graphic Design won by Philip Peyton, and Awards of Merit presented to Alice Crawford, Erica Dixon, Stephanie Jordon, Stephanie Poche, Rebekah Savage, and Valorie Stafford.
Awards chosen by other judges were the Photography Award to Michele Smith and Sarah Kelly; the Art History Award to Rebekah Savage; and three one-person exhibitions next fall at the Northminster Church to Philip Peyton, Kelly Fuller, and Kathleen Tumey.
President James Cofer presented cash awards to Samantha Allen and Rebekah Savage to "rent" works for one calendar year; Provost Stephen Richters "rented" works by Nick Hutchinson and Tricia Thorne; and Director of the School of Visual and Performing Arts Keith White "rented" works by Natalie Newton and Philip Peyton.
Other students with work accepted into this competition were Jodi Dickey, Joni Dollar, Jimmy Hale, Meredith Mc Daniel, Stephan Nodarse, Karen Robinson, Travis Reuther, and Melissa Rogers.
