Faculty Concert to Celebrate 20th Century Composers
The Division of Music and Dance at the University of Louisiana at Monroe Concert Series presents faculty artists in a unique concert that features two celebrated 20th century works by master composers.
Sandra Lunte, Mark McCleery and Richard Seiler will perform George Crumb's 1971 "Voice of the Whale" for electric flute, electric cello and electric piano. As one of America's most performed contemporary composers, Crumb creates a powerful soundscape of new tone colors in this theatrical work for three masked players.
An ensemble of seven players led by conductor Jon Lindsey will present the suite of music for "The Soldier's Tale," Igor Stravinsky's 1918 theatrical piece for two actors, a dancer and a narrator. The composer's seven musicians form an orchestra in microcosm. The performers are violinist Christopher Thompson, double bassist and guest artist Myron Turner, clarinetist William Nichols, bassoonist David Gibson, trumpeter Marilynn Gibson, trombonist Robert Blaine and percussionist Larry Anderson.
The concert will be March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the new Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall on University Avenue. For ticket information please call he Division of Music and Dance at 342-1570.
